Encourage students to visit ‘technological marvel’ Atal Tunnel – iiTECHNOLOGY

The College Grant Fee (UGC) has requested universities and engineering faculties to share the details of the Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh with college students and encourage them to visit the “technological marvel”.

The commission directed that the students should follow the guidelines issued by the central as well as state governments during their journey in the tunnel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s longest motorable tunnel, the Atal Tunnel, in Rohtang in October.

“Situated at an altitude of over 10,000 feet, this 9.02 km tunnel has been specially constructed in troublesome and adverse local weather, with state-of-the-art options deploying the latest and best practices in tunneling . -Transverse air flow, SCADA manages the fire fighting, lighting and monitoring system,” UGC secretary Rajneesh Jain said in a letter to the vice-chancellors.

The All Weather Atal Tunnel will reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 km and travel time by 4 to 5 hours. It is the longest freeway tunnel on Earth.

“It is desired that the data of this technological marvel of the country, which includes the most effective practices in engineering, design, planning, building and enterprise administration, should be disseminated to the college students of engineering faculties, who have been identified in this tunnel. should be motivated to go. Recognize and imbibe the capabilities in tunneling efforts that now exist across the country,” he said.

The tunnel has been constructed with ultra-modern specs at an altitude of 3,000 meters within the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas.

The south portal of the Atal Tunnel is located at an altitude of 3,060 meters, 25 km from Manali, while its north portal is located at an altitude of 3,071 meters near Sissu village Teling in the Lahaul Valley.
